The Doctor

Dr. Jo Michaelson discovered veterinary medicine when she was lucky enough to have a summer job at a companion animal hospital after her freshman year in college.

She graduated from Mt Holyoke College with a Bachelor's in Biology and the University of Connecticut with a Master's in Pathobiology. She then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from North Carolina State University in 1989.

She chose to live in southestern Connecticut because of the beautiful countryside and closeness to Long Island Sound and the ocean. After working at Montville Animal Hospital for 2 years, she purchased the practice and has been honored to care for the pets of the surrounding towns for more than 15 years.

Dr. Michaelson is especially interested in optimizing the good health of all of her patients. Maintaining dental health, educating owners about raising puppies and kittens, soft tissue surgery and geriatrics are areas of particular strengths. She feels it is important to communicate clearly and enjoys the process of getting to know both the owners and the pets in her care.

Although dogs and cats are the most frequently treated companion animals in her practice, she has a special interest in reptiles and has made this new field an important part of her continuing education. Small mammals such as ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other rodents are also patients at Montville Animal Hospital.

Currently, Dr. Michaelson lives with 2 cats and 2 red-eared slider turtles

Melissa Cliett joined Montville Animal Hospital in December 2017 as a Veterinary Technician and our Practice Manager. She has been working in the veterinary field for over 25 years. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University and a Registered Veterinary Technician. Melissa relocated to Connecticut in 2010 and now lives in Ledyard with her wonderful husband and 3 children. She is also shares her home with her adopted cat "Gilligan", a corn snake "Sammy", a leopard gecko "Wilson", a guinea pig "Twix" and a perfectly crazy Thoroughbred mare "Taylor".

Veterinary Technicians/Assistants

Eva Zieller Klein started with in October 2016. She received her Board certification in the state of Wisconsin and is a Certified Veterinary Technician. Eva works as both one of our veterinary technicians and as one of our receptionists and is a great asset to the team. Eva shares her home with many animals including 10 cats, 2 dogs, a juliana pig, a bearded dragon, 2 leopard geckos, a sugar glider, a horse, 3 nigerian dwarf goats, a sheep, a goose, 4 turkeys and 38 chickens!

Heather Muir started with us in 2011 while still in high school. She left to attend college, and now is back with us full time. She does not currently have any pets, but her dream dog is an Irish Wolfhound to run in the woods with. When she is not working Heather enjoys spending time outside (even in the snow!) and doing artsy things. We are very glad to have Heather back with us.

Lori Winslow has been the smiling face at our front desk since 2010. She is usually the first and last person you will see when you come to Montville Animal Hospital and she knows all of our clients. She is married and the "mom" to Butch, a Miniature Pinscher mix, who seems to run the household. She has always had pets growing up and as an adult, and loves all of the different patients she gets to meet. Although Lori is originally from California, she loves living in New England. In her free time, she is an avid reader and cross stitcher.
